Franklin S. “Chip” Horn III, 67, a floral designer and a men’s shop owner, died Nov. 13 at his home in Lower Gwynedd of injuries suffered in a fall.

Until his retirement in 1983, Mr. Horn had been a floral designer for nine years at Robertson’s in Chestnut Hill, where he was renowned in the region for his brilliant creations for both private and corporate events. When Queen Elizabeth visited Philadelphia in 1976, he was the designer of the special floral arrangement presented to the Queen.

In addition to his work at Robertson’s, he owned and operated a haberdashery on the Hill, the Franklin Horn Shop, for a number of years in the 1980’s.

In 1990, he began his work in nonprofit administration, first with Philabundance and then with the Northwest Interfaith Movement. At Philabundance, from 1990 to 1994, he was a talented employee with a range of skills – from managing drivers and volunteers, to grant writing, to database management.

Pamela Rainey Lawler, the organization’s founder, said “Chip Horn joined the Philabundance team at a critical time in its development and was the go-to guy for just about everything. He was totally dedicated to our mission and the people we served.”

Mr. Horn graduated from LaSalle College High School in 1967 and from Loyola University Maryland in 1971.

He is survived by his nephews, Matthew, Michael and Andrew Davis and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin “Bud” and Jacqueline Horn, and by his sister, Tracey Horn Davis.

Burial was private, but a celebration of his life will be held at a later date – WF
