Karen M. Coneys of Bronxville, NY, and formerly of Chestnut Hill, passed away on September 16, 2016, after a lengthy campaign against lymphoma.  Miss Coneys was 59 years old.  During her more than twenty years with ABC Carpet & Home, the New York City-based carpet, rug and home furnishings retailer, Miss Coneys ascended to the position of Vice President, Chief Financial Officer.  Previously, she had been Vice-President-Comptroller of The Conran Stores, Inc., a former national home furnishings retailer with locations in and around Philadelphia.  Miss Coneys was a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the NYS Society of CPAs.  In 1978, Miss Coneys graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY.  Miss Coneys was a 1974 graduate of the Academy of Mount Saint Ursula, Bronx, NY.  For many years, Miss Coneys sponsored a scholarship for needy young ladies to attend the Academy.  Miss Coneys was a generous donor and supporter for numerous Catholic and non-sectarian charities. During her long battle with lymphoma, she rediscovered her love of crocheting (learned during childhood with her late maternal grandmother, Kathryn E. Frierson, of Fairmount) to make blankets for other cancer patients.  Since 1974, Miss Coneys was a member of the Coveleigh Club in Rye, NY, where she excelled at tennis, platform tennis and making many good friends. During the last fifteen years of her life, Miss Coneys uncovered and nurtured a talent for highly detailed pen-and-ink drawings.  Her subjects were found in nature and rustic country structures particularly in and around the Shawangunk Mountains where her favorite vacation spot is located, namely, Mohonk Mountain House, New Paltz, NY.  Miss Coneys was born in Chestnut Hill on November 4, 1956, where she and her family lived on West Willow Grove Avenue.  She attended Our Mother of Consolation School, where she was lovingly helped by Rev. Mother Aloysius Maria, SSJ, and taught very well by Sister Mary Harold, SSJ, and Sister Mary Audrey, SSJ.  Karen’s childhood friends in Chestnut Hill included children of the Bencivenga, Brady, Hemphill, Lee, Leaming, Look and Shuttle families.  She is survived by her loving parents, John F. Coneys and Ann Frierson Coneys of Bronxville, NY, and her devoted brothers Walter J. Coneys of Yorktown Heights, NY, and Michael P. Coneys of Bronxville, NY, all formerly of Chestnut Hill.  After a Solemn Requiem Mass at the Church of St. Joseph, Bronxville, NY, Miss Coneys was buried at Fernwood Cemetery, Lansdowne, PA, with her late grandparents, Walter and Florence Coneys, and her late uncle, Walter “Bud” Coneys.  If you have any reminis-cences of Karen, please send them to her brother Michael at michaelconeys@msn.com.
